Hello everyone.
This blog has been running for a few months now, and with regular readers, it is getting quite a few hits. Certainly more than I previously got on previous blog attempts, so with that in mind I wanted to thank you, the readers.
I also wanted to start a conversation with you guys, partly to figure out what you think I am doing right so I can do more of it, and partly because I wanted to get to know my readers a bit better. So, if you follow me on wordpress or some other blog following tool, or regularly visit via my social media, then this post is aimed at you!
And, if you just happened to land on this post out of curiosity or by accident, this post is aimed at you too!
So, let us start conversation.
Post comments below, saying hello and introduce yourself. Tell me what brought you to this blog initially, and what brings you back? What other stuff would you like to see me write about?
Share something about yourself you are willing to share, and let us, writer and reader, build on our growing relationship.
I also encourage you to talk to each other when other people comment. Blogs aren’t just vanity press, they are community.
I happen to be part of quite a welcoming blogging community on facebook, Geek Blogs Unite, which I encourage any self identifying geeky blogger to join.
Please don’t leave me hanging. Say hi, don’t be shy.
Oh, and if you are participating, remember – be nice to my guests, as they should be nice to you.
Well hello there! My name is Athena, and I think I found your blog from a comment you left on mine a while ago. I followed the trail back to your blog and liked the posts on various table-top games, so I decided to stay 🙂 I think your blog is nice – it has a niche it talks about, so if that’s your passion, stick with it! I’m always up for lively discussions about themes and stories in games, but of course that’s not what everyone else wants to talk about all the time! (haha)
About me… I’ve only been blogging for about eight months? Oh! I really love Dragon Age: Origins, and am one of the four people in the world who enjoyed playing Zelda II. I’m trying to get more into table-top games, particularly RPGs, but there is sadly not much of a community around me, and I’m pressed for time in my personal life (like most of us are!).
So… nice to meet you!
Welcome Athena! Yes, that does sound like the sort of thing I would do, just randomly leave a comment to get some traffic back. I have blogged many times over the years, but never consistently. This is the first time I have managed to make a serious go of it, and it seems to be working. You are doing well in terms of followers by the looks of things for only 8 months, commendable. Yes, RPG, fun, but difficult if no one is around
Thank you kindly! Yes, I’m glad your latest foray into blogging is successful as well!!
I think it has to do with purpose, and identity. Never quite mastered it before. Now, I think I have it
Hey, John! My name is Jane, and I found your blog from a comment you left on mine. And I fell in love with it right from the start especially because of the Mycroft Journals.
About me… I’ve only been blogging for about three months but am rapidly learning. I love table-top games although I rarely get the time to play them these days but when I do, I give it my all. Your blog is really cool but as Athena said not everyone likes to talk about gaming all the time (not me though.) So, it’d be great if once in a while you digress a bit like you did with this post. 😉
I guess that’s it.
Hi Jane, yes, I suspect a lot of people are going to say they found me that way. Ok, where should I digress to?
Well, the one thing other than games that I would be interested in – you are already doing with Mycroft Journals. Stories!!
So, I guess I leave it up to you.
I do them occasionally to do with other things, but the Mycroft Journals are the only consistent story. Next update tomorrow
Yay!! 😀
Hello John, my name is Michel and I live in Holland. Well, not being very original here, but I also found your blog because of a comment you left on mine 😊
I used to be a very fanatic gamer, but I (rage) quit that world about 5 or 6 years ago, and rediscovered my passion for boardgames. I have too much hobbies, and way too less time to work on all of them. As you may have seen on my blog, I have a wide range of topics I deal with. My love for movies and tv series is what I enjoy writing about the most, but I also review boardgames, books, comics, and have special feature posts on a wide range of topics. I really have been enjoying blogging a lot. I’ve been doing it fir about 6 months now, and the thing I enjoy the most is interacting with other people. I have already met some wonderful and amazing folks through WordPress, and that I think is what makes this all so worthwhile 😊
What can I say about your blog? Well how about it’s awesome? I particularly enjoy your boardgame posts, and unboxing videos for Star Wars armada. (Hey…it’s Star Wars…that is always cool). Your posts are well written, and just very enjoyable to read. So all I can say is keep on doing what you are doing: it’s all good 😀
Ah, so that is your name. I always thought of you as Raistlyn, albeit not a decrepit morally ambiguous (and sometimes not so ambiguous wizard). I really enjoy reading your movie posts as they tend to encourage me to watch stuff I was swithering over. I enjoy doing the armada unboxings, and have decided to do unboxings in general. None of them so far have been cutting edge leading the market but that is just the way things are. When kickstarters start arriving, that is a different story. A friend of mine is going to help me with a proper intro for youtube videos an I am going to ressurect my youtube presence (I did a very short stint with creative writing lessons).
Haha, lol…well…I do still have secret plans to overthrow the gods, and enter the Abyss…but hey, a man can dream 😂 Cool, looking forward to those YouTube videos 😀
Am thinking unboxings but if my laptop can cope, some let’s plays. I know it chokes on recording sound for cities skylines but am thinking star wars rebellion, baldur’s gate and warhammer total war might be ok
*waves* Hey John, it’s Danny here, first time comment long time stalker. (It’s ok everyone, I really do know John, we go waaay back – at least to before the first restraining order).
I’m liking what you’re doing as you’re actually doing it, rather than talking about doing it, which I approve of. I’m also intrigued in keeping up with your views. opinions and geek gossip now you’ve made the move back North of The Wall. For everyone else I’m not a blogger but a tabletop gamer since nineteeneightymumble, John and I have done a bit of work together over the years (most of it not geekery related but some is) and by night I’m an illustrator of relative merit and musician of very little. I guess I’ve always been interested in the potential of t’internet to facilitate enlightened discussion and would encourage any attempts to move the balance towards that end of the spectrum away from trollish misogyny and other pre-pubescent forms of discourse.
So, yeah. *waves again*
Glad to see you here Danny. I had hoped you were one of my readers. I am going to be writing a post tomorrow, probably for next wednesday, that may interest you about the sorts of characters we choose to follow and, in the case of gamers, play. I like putting content of experience (so, games I have played) and reviews/uboxings as other folk might benefit from them, but I think a few more me posts wouldn’t go amiss so people can get a bit more of my identity . I always tend towards evil wizards and clerics. I leave it to my readers to draw their own conclusions what that says about me…
I’m partial to charming rogues and sneaky warriors with hidden (magical) talents myself.. It’s all about the misdirection.
Funny you should say that. Am starting in a campaign in the near future and a gentleman thief is one of my ideas
Hello John! I came across your blog because you found our little blog collaboration. Thank you. I’m a Dr. Nurse (PhD in Nursing), and I write. You have a fun site. I’m going to explore it some more!
